The Liberty  

The Liberty, an assisted living community that opened in 1999. The Liberty features 70 apartment suites in three connected neighborhood buildings. The Liberty offers luxurious living and common areas, where "front porches" open onto interior neighborhood streets bathed in natural light.

Residents of The Liberty enjoy "catered assistance with living," a special combination of housing, personalized support services, and healthcare designed for individuals who require assistance with activities of daily living. The Dolan Center for Memory and Aging

Based on philosophy and research centered around person-centered care that supports the individual resident needs by analyzing the needs and desires of the person rather than being defined only by a medical diagnosis. This program includes a clinical process whereby UH memory specialists are able to discern, record, and monitor the quality of life indicators on an individual basis enhancing and preserving each resident’s personhood.

Memory and Aging Services provide several levels of care to accommodate the specific needs of patients and families. These levels include:

• Respite Care Programs – Available for overnight stays to accommodate care givers in need of a break from the rigors of full time care giving and/or to provide families the opportunity to travel for business and vacation while their loved one is properly cared for in an environment that enhances their quality of life.
• The Dolan Center – Offers full time residential care in a internationally renown setting specifically designed and programmed for the individual needs of Alzheimer's residents and their families.
• Special Care Center – Offers a continuum beyond the Dolan Center for providing higher levels of care based on increased acuity while maintaining a quality of life through the seamless continuum of Alzheimer's programming and activities.
• Dementia Services Program – Complemented by acute rehabilitation services integrated with the Respite Care and full time residential care.

The Specialty Hospital

The Specialty Hospital at University Hospitals Extended Care Campus (Long-Term Acute Care Hospital, or LTACH) is dedicated to the care of the medically complex patient who requires extended hospitalization and would benefit from an intense rehabilitation program. The Specialty Hospital is JCAHO accredited. We have a high-observation unit in addition to specialized programs to maximize each patient’s recovery, including:

• Medically Complex
• Wound Care
• Pulmonary / Ventilator Weaning
• Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation Services and Aquatic Center

The University Hospitals Outpatient Rehabilitation and Aquatic Center offers convenient, state-of-the-art physical, occupational, aquatic and speech therapy.

The therapy pool allows barrier-free entry by raising and lowering the pool floor to accommodate wheelchairs or walkers. Features include an underwater treadmill and water jets to create resistance for strength training. Underwater cameras are connected to monitors, computers and videotape equipment to track the patient’s progress.
